  "conversion_comment": "BAFU's main peat row, in 134 of the 11,947 datasets in the 2026 v1 release, and it is peat burned as fuel. The archive says which peat this is. The row is the extraction input to `Peat, at mine`, one kilogram per kilogram of product, and that dataset is filed under `fuels / peat`; its output feeds `Peat, burned in power plant` and `Electricity, peat, at power plant`. The other 133 datasets carrying this row are ordinary products -- glass, acetone, gypsum, polyols -- at 1e-4 to 1e-8 kg, which is peat-fired electricity reaching them through the background: `Electricity imports` alone carries `Electricity, peat, at power plant` 211 times. Nothing in the release uses peat as a growing medium.\n\nIt used to go to EF 3.1's material peat -- `Peat, in ground`, now published as `Peat, horticulture` -- on the reasoning that BAFU's row has the same name, the same `biotic` compartment and the same kilogram as ecoinvent 3.12's, which is that substance (#442). Same name and same compartment, different substance: BAFU's flows came out of ecoinvent 2, where peat was a fuel, and ecoinvent 3 restructured. #450 renamed the material peat for exactly this reason -- so that a row on the wrong one of the two is visible -- and this row was on the wrong one.\n\n9.76 MJ/kg is the IPCC 2006 Guidelines Vol. 2 Table 1.2 default for peat, the same figure and the same source as BAFU's `resources / in ground` peat row below, which is the same substance from the other compartment.
